The story of Birdie Chronograph 41
With functionality, reliability and precision as important as design, the Birdie Chronograph 41 is based on the versatile MALM Dalton model. Originally developed for pilots in the Swedish Air Force, the Dalton is known for its durability, precision, and everyday reliability — qualities for aviation, golfers and watch enthusiasts alike.
Designed for performance without sacrificing style, this is a watch made to be used. The dial features a distinctive honeycomb texture — a pattern deeply rooted in aviation engineering, known for its strength and lightweight structure, yet also reminiscent of the pattern on a golf ball. This fusion creates a striking 3D surface that bridges the worlds of aviation and golf. In the center-positioned second hand, the MALM original silhouette of the JAS 39 Gripen fighter nods to Linköping — the origin of the watch and the capital of Swedish aviation. A subtle Swedish flag rests in the lower sub-dial, celebrating its heritage. The chronograph function often found in pilot watches offers practical timekeeping on the course, while the rotating bezel introduces another versatile way to measure time.
The minute and hour hands, along with the outer hour markers, are coated with lume to ensure visibility in low light. A date window sits between 4 and 5 o’clock. Another new feature for the Birdie is the concave sub-dials, creating a slight bowl shape. The lower sub-dial tracks running seconds, the right sub-dial shows 24-hour time, and the left records up to 60 minutes when the chronograph is engaged.
Powered by a mecaquartz movement — combining quartz precision with the tactile feel of a mechanical chronograph — the watch delivers dependable accuracy and a battery life of approximately three years.
